Overview

When the Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Trust came into existence in January 2016, the initial membership subscriptions and the funds generated by the famous Legends Game played a massive part in helping the BWFCST become one of the leading supporters’ organisations in English football. This initial funding allowed the Trust to place annual membership subscriptions on temporary hold. Many members and several initial corporate members did continue to donate on an annual basis, for which the Trust is extremely grateful.

However, we now need to look at the next phase in the life of BWFC and the increasing part that we hope the BWFCST will be able to play. This will involve reintroduction of individual annual membership subscriptions and also the opportunity to become a corporate BWFCST member with the benefits of increased exposure that will bring.

Today, the BWFCST has over 5,000 members, including several past players (Gudni Bergsson, Stelios, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ivan Klasnic to name but a few).

The Trust has over 6,000 followers on Twitter and 4,000 on Facebook, demonstrating the visibility and coverage in place on social media. Regular contributions are also made to local and national radio and TV by members of the BWFCST board and associated working groups, thereby increasing the awareness of the Trust and the work being undertaken.

The BWFCST website has been recently overhauled and now provides an effective source of information for both Trust members and non-members alike, with regular direct communications with members now in place. The Trust has also recently established a BWFCST YouTube channel and is looking to expand content to include more supporter-related input.

Since formation, links have been forged with the Football Supporters Association (FSA) and the EFL and within the last two weeks, a BWFCST representative received a personal invite to take part in a structured dialogue meeting between the EFL and the FSA.

Links are now also in place with local and national government, with a submission made to a DCMS Select Committee hearing into the demise of Bury FC made by the BWFCST in late 2019.
